Risk Issue:
While most (not all) health or habit histories are insurable at some premium, not all companies accept all types of histories. Additionally, certain histories may not be insurable until an adequate time has passed to determine whether treatment is completed and successful remission is evident. For example, individuals with a history of internal cancer may have a waiting period of five years after the end of treatment before some companies will consider an application.

Accordingly, it is not possible to generalize as to which company will accept someone previously declined, rated, or refused. With certain issues, the broker may shop more than one company to obtain bids for the lowest premium. Brokers who have experience with special risk know exactly how to package your request and aggressively shop without cost to you.

Rated - Offered Premium Higher Than Premium Quoted
Fortunately, this may be the type of insurance company action easiest to shop. For example, some companies have had broad experience underwriting diabetics and price their policies most competitively. Typically, they also have the staff to make timely decisions, e.g., an endocrinologist available to provide special records review. Others may only take the cream - their interpretation of the best risks.

As an example, High Blood Pressure controlled with medication may be perfectly acceptable as Preferred, the second lowest premium, with one company and would receive a higher premium with another. Completion of the Personalized Quote will allow us to re-shop for you or may even get you an on-line quote.

Declined, Postponed or Refused Insurance
Some companies may consider certain health risks beyond their expertise or premium rating structure. A refusal, postponement or declination is a serious issue but may not preclude a competitive offer from a high risk or special risk company. Obviously, the definition of competitive is in the eye of the beholder.

Important:
When individuals have health issues that make them uninsurable, the only policies available may be those without health questions called "guarantee issue life insurance" (click for more information).
