Risk Issue:
Commercial aviation is not considered hazardous by a few companies so favorable premiums are available. Civilian aviation by non-commercial pilots, however, is considered a hazardous activity by certain companies. These companies add a surcharge (extra charge per thousand , add a cost per thousand such as $1.50 to $3.00), for any non-commercial aviation.
A combination of commercial and civilian aviation presents special risk issues. For example, selected companies would add $300 yearly to a $100,000 policy for non-commercial aviation.
Solutions:
1. Check your pilot's association for special rates.
2. Find the company, if any, that does not surcharge, for your aviation classification.
3. Accept an aviation waiver (no protection from the policy).
4. Pay a flat extra charge for aviation.
Best Class:
Preferred, the second lowest premium classification, with a few companies depending on status.
